Guest Blog: Weaning with KINDness by Lisa Wallace

I’m so excited to share this beautiful guest blog written by Lisa Wallace, whose approach to weaning is rooted not just in nutrition, but in connection, compassion, and joy. Her KIND Weaning framework is a gentle reminder that mealtimes are about so much more than what’s on the plate, they’re about presence, trust, and the memories we build with our little ones. If her words speak to you, or you’d like support in shaping your own weaning journey with more kindness and confidence, I encourage you to reach out to her via her social media. She’s here to help you turn mealtimes into moments that truly matter. https://www.instagram.com/intuitiveweaning

Weaning with KINDness:Building Memories, Not Just Meals

When people think about weaning, theyoften picture purees, finger foods, and highchairs. But to me, weaning is aboutso much more than what’s on the plate. It’s about the moments, the memories, and the connection you build with your baby around food.

Because food isn’t just fuel. Food is love, trust, and togetherness.

Beyond nutrition

Of course, nutrition matters. But if we focusonly on vitamins and portion sizes, we miss the bigger picture.

What your baby remembersisn’t the exact meal you served  it’s the way you smiled at them, thelaughter when peas went flying, and the safety they felt in your presence.

This is why I developed my KIND Weaning framework:

• Kindness: Showing yourself compassion and letting go of guilt.

• Individual: Honouring your baby’s unique pace and personality.

• Nurture: Building trust and connection through food.

• Discover: Seeing weaning as an adventure, not a chore.
It’s not about perfection it’s about presence.

The little things become the bigthings

Think about your own memories of foodgrowing up. Chances are, you don’t remember every meal, but you remember howthose mealtimes felt. Maybe it was laughter around the table, or maybe it waspressure and stress.

Your baby’s story with food is being written right now. And you get to choosewhether it’s a story filled with anxiety, or one filled with kindness, discovery, and joy.

Creating moments that last

Some of the most powerful memorieshappen in the “messy middle”:

• The time your baby smeared avocado across their cheeks like face paint.

• The day they surprised you by chewing on broccoli with determination.

• The evenings when you both ended up giggling more than eating.

These aren’t inconveniences  they’re the building blocks of confidence andconnection.

A journey worth celebrating

Weaning with KINDness meanscelebrating the little wins, forgiving the setbacks, and enjoying the ride. Itmeans remembering that one messy mealtime doesn’t define you as a parent oryour baby as an eater.
So next time you sit down at the highchair, trythis: pause, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that you’re not justfeeding a baby. You’re shaping memories, building trust, and laying thefoundation for a lifelong relationship with food.
Because in the end, weaning isn’t just aboutmeals. It’s about memories.
