Hi, I’m Bex, the founder of Nurtured Birth & Beyond..

I'm here because I've been where you are. Anxious about birth, unsure what to expect, and desperately wanting things to go differently than last time. I know what it's like to feel out of control during labour, and I know what it takes to change that.

Throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey, you deserve to feel supported, empowered and listened to. That’s why I’ve created Nurtured Birth & Beyond, a place where you can learn about and share the experiences and realities of becoming a parent. In addition to equipping you with valuable knowledge through my bespoke classes and sessions, I promise to at all times offer compassion, honesty, and practical support.

I'll never shy away from anything you want to talk about, whether it’s how you’re feeling, hurdles you’re facing, or diving into the science behind what I teach. I’ll be here to get you the answers you need.

Why work with me?

There are loads of antenatal teachers out there, so why choose me?

Because I'm not just teaching theory from a textbook. And, I understand. I'm a mum who's had both a traumatic first birth and an empowering second one. And I'm someone who genuinely gets what it's like to feel unprepared, unsupported, and determined that next time will be different.

I hold a degree in psychology and have extensive experience in supporting clients through therapy, specialising in managing anxiety. I'm a certified Hypnobirthing teacher and Tummy Time practitioner. But most importantly? I'm a mum of two who's lived through exactly what you're experiencing right now.

I deliver science backed, complete antenatal classes both in my studio in North Tyneside and online (for those further away or who would prefer to be in the comfort of their own home), and with my studio I’ve created a postnatal space where I lead sessions for both parents and babies to meet, connect, learn and enjoy.

First hand experience taught me that knowing your body and how it works is the key to having a positive birth experience. Even if things don’t go to plan, through working with me you’ll feel empowered to manage your birth and to get as many of your preferences as possible, no matter what the situation. I can say this with some certainty based on not only my own but many other peoples experiences.

My story

During my first pregnancy, I took a deep dive into many books about birth which, I thought, gave me a good knowledge and understanding of what I was going to experience.

I was in the process of thinking through my birth plan, speaking to the midwife about it, and was about to write it out, when my little girl decided to arrive early. All before I had a chance to put my plan down on paper!

Not having my plans written down meant my preferences went out the window when the natural anxiety set in in the moment. I hadn’t yet discussed things properly with my husband, so he was unable to advocate for me, and I ended up going into the birth just trying to get through it as quickly as possible. Fortunately, at the end of my labour, I delivered a lovely healthy baby girl, despite her early arrival.

But the truth is, I was deeply affected by that birth. I'd ended up with pain relief I didn't want, spent my entire labour flat on my back, and felt completely unable to speak up for myself. I told people I was just glad she was safe and healthy (and I was), but underneath that I was struggling with feelings I didn't quite know how to process.

I never really wanted to think about that birth experience in depth, other than sharing with a few family members and friends, that I was just glad she was safe and healthy, and having it reaffirmed by them that this was the best outcome.

When I got pregnant with my second, all these feelings came flooding back. I was anxious about labour. Worried I'd lose control again. Scared my husband still wouldn't know how to support me properly. And overwhelmed by the amount of conflicting information out there about birth.

I found an antenatal course that taught about the science of birth, how our mind and the mind-body connection can help us manage birth, and how to navigate and advocate for ourselves in the maternity system. It sounded perfect for me, then I read the name of this course… hypnobirthing!

Like many, I had preconceived ideas about hypnobirthing—I thought it was for a certain type of person, a certain type of birth, and it would all be a bit ‘woo woo’ for me. But after reading about how it is science-backed, I reached out and after a brief chat, decided to take the plunge and do the course.

I am so glad that I took this leap of faith. The course was informative and scientific (but not in a boring way!). I learned so much about the process of birth which, even in specific birthing books, felt brushed over. Once I knew this information, everything about my first birth made sense. I felt much more informed and confident that I could achieve the birth I wanted second time round.

My second birth again didn’t go the way I had planned, resulting in an induction. However, this time round, things not going to plan didn’t worry me. I knew this was a potential outcome and had made a plan A, B and C for this very reason. During my induction, I remained feeling in control, informed, and equipped to deal with whatever situations arose during my birth, and I can honestly say I had a really positive experience throughout the birth of my son. Yes, it was difficult, and there were times when I felt I couldn’t do it, but the feeling of euphoria I had post-birth, knowing that I had done everything I could to get as close to my ideal birth, made me feel so powerful!

Doing a hypnobirthing course changed my whole perception of labour and birth, but it also sparked a passion in me to help women and their birth partners by providing knowledge and tools that empower them during the birth of their baby and much further into their parenthood journey.

I’ve made it my goal to build a community that supports, teaches, and learns from you, a unique offering that helps parents feel supported from bump, to birth, to baby.

If you're reading this and thinking 'That's exactly how I feel,' then let's talk. Because birth doesn't have to feel overwhelming or out of your control. And I can help you change that.
